I am looking to replace the GE motor that came with my old South Bend Lathe. It is a single-phase, 3.8 amp, 115 volt motor at a 1/4 HP w/ a capacitor. I would like to upgrade to 1/2 HP. I am using form cutters to cut into the tailstock side of the workpiece... I think a 1/2 HP should be enough but if anyone has any opinions I'd like to hear them.

I ended up buying a chuck from Tallgrass tools. He machines these to fit Atlas lathes but will make it to your specs from what I read. The register matches the spindle and the runout was much better(.0005). The other thing I liked was the large hex nut for removing the chuck and a nice 4 pin spanner for the nut.
